Afonso Miguel Cavaco holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacy Practice and Policy from UCL (UK) and a post-doc from Johns Hopkins University (USA). He is currently an associated professor and R&D developer in social pharmacy at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Pharmacy. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary research and contributing to the education of pre and postgrad pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. His key competencies include investigation activities in research and education projects. Science efforts include mainly book chapters and more than 70 articles published in journals with impact factor, as well as presentations in scientific events, including plenary sessions by invitation, workshops leading, and oral communications. Education efforts comprise the implementation of innovative pedagogical approaches, such as pharmacy practice simulation (e.g. MyDispense). Afonso’s international profile comprises roles in European scientific associations (e.g. EACH) and the organization of international scientific events (e.g. ISPW). Afonso’s present main research interests comprise the attitudinal aspects of medication use and communication in healthcare, especially on patient consultation and medicines information.
